Use on: new, unfinished (or properly prepared and sanded) wooden surfaces such as furniture, cabinetry, molding, baseboards, doors, picture frames, shiplap and trim. See below for primer recommendations.
Pro tip: Less is more! Healthier Homes Cabinet + Furniture Lacquer is designed to be applied in multiple thin coats, and is self leveling for a smooth finish.
Coverage: One gallon of Healthier Homes Cabinet + Furniture Lacquer covers approximately 350 square feet per coat.
Surface preparation: Surfaces should be sanded and free of dirt, grease, mildew and oil. Before application, clean surface with pressurized air or wipe with an odorless, natural and dye-free all-purpose cleaner. We recommend Healthier Clean All Purpose Cleaner, formulated for use prior to primer and paint application.
To achieve a consistent finish, evenly prime the surface with Healthier Homes New Construction Primer or Healthier Homes Reno + Remodel Primer.
- Note: Surfaces previously painted with water- or oil-based finishes should be scraped, cleaned and sanded. Healthier Homes Reno + Remodel Primer is needed before paint application.
Application: Achieve the best finish with one primer coat and two coats of zero VOC lacquer. Primed surfaces should be completely dry before paint application.
- Before using, stir well.
- Multiple thin coats are recommended.
- For full-coverage application, overlap preceding application with ¼ to ½ the fan width.
- Do not overwork the surface after paint is applied. Brush lines will disappear when the second coat is dry!
- Let each coat dry for 8 hours in an HVAC conditioned space between applications.
Always ensure adequate ventilation during and after application of zero VOC cabinet paint. Do not apply on cold, humid days and/or if the surface, air, or container temperature is below 55°F. Paint may be thinned with clean water only. Do not use paint thinner!
Rolling specs: Apply with a clean, new, high-quality bristle brush or paint roller.
Spraying specs: Use an airless sprayer and painter's masks to avoid accidental inhalation. A 311 spray tip works best. Reduce paint with up to 1/2 pint of clean water per gallon as needed. Remove the internal filters from the spray machine prior to application. For best coverage, spray 18" from surface.
Recoating and Dry Time: Under normal conditions, Healthier Homes Real Zero VOC paint can be recoated after 4 hours. For best results, wait at least 8 hours before recoating. Normal conditions include a dry surface, fresh air flow, moderate to low humidity, and temperatures above 55°F. Other conditions, such as thick application or high humidity, may cause paint to dry slower and/or cure improperly.
Cleanup: Clean equipment while still wet. For best results, use a solution of Healthier Clean All Purpose Cleaner and warm water.
No special disposal requirements: For disposal, leave the lids off so that unused product hardens. Dispose of it in your normal garbage.
