Fumes + Formaldehyde Blocker, by Healthier Homes (1 gallon)
Preventing formaldehyde and chemical fumes in indoor air is a challenge, so we developed Fumes + Formaldehyde Blocker, a clear non toxic wood sealer! It seals OSB, plywood, foam, lumber, subflooring, roof decking and more. We spray the entire cavity of a home after framing is complete. This formula is also great to block emissions from MDF, OSB and particle board inside cabinets and furniture.
Introducing Healthier Homes Fumes + Formaldehyde Blocker, your answer to building a wellness-integrated living environment. This multi-use, water-based, low-gloss clear sealer penetrates porous surfaces such as lumber, OSB, concrete, and foam insulation.
As builders, we use it to seal the entire inside cavity of a home once the framing, roof decking and spray foam are complete.
This eco friendly wood sealer is engineered to reduce toxic out-gassing and odors. It is highly effective at encapsulating formaldehyde fumes and wood terpenes (wood smell) and provides an additional barrier against moisture damage and mold.

Use on:
Framing lumber, cement, plaster, and foam insulation before finishing out a home. Wooden sheet goods installed during construction such as OSB, particle board, MDF and plywood. Concrete or porcelain tile as bonding agent for thinset or adhesives. Mixed with grout to reduce offgassing from subflooring.
- Recommended for use as basecoat or behind walls.
- Dries clear and slightly tacky.
- Not for use on surfaces finished with oil-based products.
Coverage:
One gallon covers approximately 350 square feet per coat.
Surface preparation and important application details:
Surfaces should be free of dirt, grease, mildew, soap, mill scale and oil. Moisture content of wood should be below 12% for best results. Before using, mix well by gently rolling container to avoid air bubbles. Do not shake. Stir product every 20 minutes during application.
For lumber, hard/semi-porous surfaces and framing:
Apply two coats with a sprayer, brush or pad applicator. Avoid overbrushing. For spray application, use a clean backpack sprayer, new garden pump sprayer or spray bottle. Due to the softness of this penetrating sealer, the clear coat may dry slightly tacky, which is normal.
We recommend sealing the entire interior cavity of a home once the roof decking is completed and the interior is dried in. If using spray foam, apply the sealer after the spray foam is installed.
DO NOT USE PAINT THINNER. Allow coats to dry between applications. Let each coat dry for at least 2 hours in an HVAC conditioned space or in dry conditions above 55°F.
Thick application, high humidity, or conditions other than normal may cause the product to dry slower and/or cure improperly.
For tile as an integral grout sealer:
Mix a 1:1 ratio of Fumes + Formaldehyde Blocker and distilled water, according to the amount of liquid the grout manufacturer recommends. Apply according to the manufacturer’s specifications.
These instructions are general and not exhaustive. Unlike conventional coatings and household products, Healthier Homes products are made without harmful preservatives. Use clean tools and avoid contamination. Store in airtight containers in a climate-controlled area.
Cleanup:
Clean equipment while still wet. For best results, use a solution of Healthier Clean All Purpose Cleaner and warm water.
No special disposal requirements:
For disposal, leave the lids off so that unused product hardens. Dispose of it in your normal garbage.Support: Need assistance? We're happy to help. Drop us a line at here with your questions.
