The matte is a true flat matte, and the gloss is a medium level gloss.
Application instructions are similar to our non toxic furniture paint / no VOC cabinet paint.
- For clear glossy finish, apply 3 coats of Clearly Natural Gloss. Allow time to dry between coats.
- For matte finish, apply 3 coats of Clearly Natural Matte. Allow time to dry between coats. (*note- the instructions on the bottle call for two coats of gloss followed with a coat of matte. This was a typo. Please disregard)
Coverage: One gallon covers approximately 350 square feet per coat.
Topcoat for use on:
- new/unfinished or properly prepared and sanded wooden surfaces such as furniture, floating shelves, cabinetry, molding, baseboards, doors, picture frames, and trim.
- wooden sheet goods such as OSB, MDF, and plywood.
- naturally finished wood work like stained or raw/unfinished wood beams.
- always spot test if applying to a previously finished surface.
Surface prep and application details: Surfaces should be sanded and free of dirt, grease, mildew, soap, mill scale and oil. Before application, clean with pressurized air and/or odorless, dye-free, all-purpose diluted cleaner such as Healthier Clean All Purpose Cleaner. Avoid using tac rags, as most contain solvents.
Applying on a warm day or in a conditioned environment is advisable. The moisture content of the wood should be below 12% for best results.
Before using, mix well by gently rolling container to avoid air bubbles. Stir product every 20 minutes during application. Apply liberal coats with a high-quality nylon brush or pad applicator, keeping a wet edge.
Spraying specs: Use an airless sprayer and painter's masks to avoid accidental inhalation. A 311 spray tip works best. Reduce paint with up to 1/2 pint of clean water per gallon if needed, but do not use paint thinner. Remove the internal filters from the spray machine prior to application. For best coverage, spray 18" from surface.
- Sand with fine sandpaper between coats. Remove dust with a damp cloth.
- Achieve smoother finishes with damp surfaces during application.
- Allow coats to dry between applications. Let each coat dry in an HVAC conditioned space or in dry conditions above 55°F.
Dry Time and Recoating: For best results, wait 30–60 minutes between coats. Normal conditions include a dry surface, fresh air flow, moderate to low humidity, and temperatures above 55°F. Thick application, high humidity, or conditions other than normal may cause natural lacquers to dry slower and/or cure improperly.
Cleanup: Clean equipment while still wet. For best results, use a solution of Healthier Clean and warm water.
No special disposal requirements: For disposal, leave the lids off so that unused product hardens. Dispose of it in your normal garbage.
