FAQ: Organic Baby Products & Sustainable Gifts for Kids
What to know before purchasing gifts for babies & kids...
Kids love presents—and really who doesn’t? However littles grow out of their toys and clothing so quickly, which is why mindful gifting is so important.
Look for kid’s room decor and furniture that's built to last, and that they can grow with and into over the years. Some sustainable gift ideas include washable cotton rugs, safe OEKO TEX bedding, natural wood toys, and cute knitted baskets for handy toy storage. Each of these encourages comfort, safe play, creativity, and environmentally conscious habits from an early age.
Consider gifting toys made from natural plant-based materials, such as handmade stuffed animals made from real hypoallergenic alpaca fur, or wooden puzzles crafted from real wood—not cheap engineered wood, particle board, or glue-filled MDF (all of which are high in formaldehyde).
It’s important to know that certifications aren’t always what they seem. Carb II Compliant does not mean formaldehyde free, and neither does Green Guard Gold Certified. While certifications are a good place to start, most third party certifications still allow chemicals of concern into many kid and baby products. Certifications are also very expensive and often not possible to afford for smaller family-owned businesses that still make clean, safe + handmade kids items.
This is why we vet each and every item in our Healthier Homes collections. So you can feel confident that your little loved ones can enjoy things that promote learning, joy and responsibility. Choosing sustainable gifts and items for your own home shows children that thoughtful, eco friendly living is rewarding and meaningful, starting at a young age.

Our definition of organic and eco friendly baby products.
Organic and eco friendly baby products are made from natural, sustainably sourced materials that avoid harmful chemicals. Unlike conventional baby items that may contain synthetic dyes, flame retardants, or plastics, these products use natural cotton, Tencel, bamboo, FSC-certified wood, and other safe ingredients.
Choosing them helps create a healthier environment for your little ones while reducing waste and pollution. They also provide reassurance to parents that the everyday items surrounding their children are contributing to overall well-being, not exposing them to toxins.
Tip—choose kids products that are age appropriate.
Remember infants can’t read flashcards yet, and a five year old doesn’t want baby toys. Consider something that your little one can enjoy now. From a cozy cuddle blanket to a toddler-friendly teepee, selecting the right product for a child’s age ensures safety and loads of enjoyment.
Age-appropriate products are specifically designed to support developmental milestones. In the grand scheme of things, find something that encourages growth, exploration, and learning through peaking a child’s natural curiosity.
Consider multi-use items that grow with your child.
Products that adapt as children grow—like adjustable furniture or versatile toys—reduce waste and maximize value. Multi-use items also support minimalism by encouraging families to buy fewer, better-quality items. This approach not only benefits the planet but also creates a clutter-free environment that promotes calm and focus.
